We are all far too quick to discount our own expertise. We think that the only value we have to share is the knowledge and skills that are relevant to our careers. But our lives are way more complex than that! We are constantly learning and developing expertise in many areas as we navigate through our lives.

What do you do well in your personal life? What things do people often come to you for help with? Believe it or not, you can turn any area of life experience into a course or membership—easily—using a platform called Searchie.

Think about it: you could easily create a helpful (and profitable) course or membership to teach people:

How to navigate your child (and yourself) through the college application process
How to prepare your child to transition to college, from what to pack to nailing down critical life skills to important parent/child conversations. We just dropped my youngest off for freshman year at college, so you can tell where my mind is at!

Create Your Offering

Searchie makes it really easy to create your course or membership. First, you need to sign up for a Searchie pricing plan. For this type of endeavor, the Creator (free!) or Start pricing plan will work. If you’re already on a higher Searchie plan such as the Grow or Scale plans, you can likely add this new Hub for no extra output.

It’s super easy to create your video content for Searchie offerings. The absolute easiest is to use the Searchie Chrome extension. This browser extension allows you to film video from your computer, whether that be videos of you speaking, taken from your computer’s webcam, or videos of your screen, as you talk your audience through a presentation on the screen. Another great thing about videos created via the Searchie Chrome extension is that they don’t count toward your upload cap.

To create a Searchie Hub, you need to come up with a good plan by mapping out how you will organize the content. You want the clients to see a clear “dashboard” in the Hub that helps them easily navigate. For example, a course teaching someone how to run a swim team may have a content area (a Searchie Playlist) called “Coaching,” another called “Swim Meets,” another called, “Recruiting and Managing Parent Volunteers,” etc.

A home maintenance membership may have month-by-month content as well as topical areas such as plumbing, HVAC maintenance, gutters and roof maintenance, etc. Thanks to the tagging feature in Searchie, one video about how to clean your gutters can be in two playlists simply by having two tags on the video: one for “October Home Maintenance Tasks” and one for “Gutters and Roof Maintenance” and maybe also in “Keeping Water Out of the Home.”

Market Your Searchie Course or Membership!

You’ll want to create a compelling Searchie sales page to take interested prospects into paying customers. And then you’ll want to get the word out about your course or membership! You’ll want to create an email newsletter (I suggest ConvertKit, which integrates with Searchie). You can blog about the topic of your offering to draw people in who are searching about the topic on the internet and to build credibility. Other marketing ideas are social media marketing, advertising, getting press and publicity, speaking engagements, and more.
