Fitness Pro Uses Searchie to Help Postpartum Moms Exercise Safely

Katrina Oakley is a fitness professional with a very specific niche: She helps postpartum mothers to work out safely, with a particular focus on women who suffer from a condition called diastasis recti (when the abdominal muscles don’t knit back together fully after childbirth).

Searchie Helps You Deliver to Your Niche

Katrina is also a stellar example of putting Searchie to use in effectively delivering educational content! Watch my interview with Katrina on the Searchie Success Facebook page to learn about her impressive Hub, Confident Fitness for Moms.

Searchie Integrates with Quiz App Interact

New students in the program take an assessment using an app called Interact, which determines the student’s fitness level, injuries, and needs. The result of the assessment is a tag for the student, allowing Katrina to guide them to playlists that are appropriate for their current health situation.

The Quiz, Integrated with Searchie Delivers a Custom Experience

The assessment results also create a calendar of classes that are recommended for that student. This is very helpful for students who want to know which of Katrina’s 100+ videos to do and how often. It takes decision-making out of the way for these busy moms—all the student needs to do is click the link for that day in the calendar and she’s taken directly to the exercise video that she should do. It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Katrina acknowledges that there are some students who prefer to browse and select their own exercise video rather than to follow a prescribed calendar of workouts. She’s made it simple for these users as well, through tagging and effective use of cover templates. The templates for the videos are color-coded by level of difficulty. The videos are also tagged by type of workout, such as core, glutes, etc. The video covers are also clearly marked (and tagged) by length of workout. So a student can search for the type of workout she wants and the length of video she’d like, and color coding will help her identify which one is appropriate for her fitness level.

Tagging Provides Structure for a Great User Experience

To accomplish this, Katrina has multiple tags on each of her many videos. Her advice to anyone who is creating a Hub is to think hard about what kind of videos you make and how you want to structure your playlists. Have all of your tags ready before you start uploading your videos! It’s much easier to tag the videos as you upload them rather than tagging them after they’re uploaded.

Tip: Think about Keywords & Thumbnails from the Beginning

Katrina also suggests setting your keywords before you upload your videos. As you can imagine, Searchie doesn’t transcribe “diastasis recti” clearly! What words or names will be mentioned in your videos often that may have the same issue? Clear it up ahead of time by entering them as keywords.

Lastly, Katrina advises that you add your video covers as you load your videos, not afterward. What great advice!
